| A fast paced brilliant season finale to a show that was uncertain if it would be renewed for the next season, the episode was set up to be the show's end, but left lots of stuff to come back to if it was renewed. Giles reads that it is written that the Master will rise and Buffy will die facing him. Buffy overhears and says she quits as the slayer, but later when people Willow knew at school are killed, Buffy decides she will stop the Master, if she dies, she'll try to take him down with her. The Master does kill Buffy, she falls into the water where Xander and Angel find her and Xander does CPR and restores her to life where she ultimately faces the Master as the Hellmouth opens, she kills the Master which closes the Hellmouth. |
| Xander finally admits to Buffy that he has feeling for her when he asks her to the spring fling, but she turns him down, not wanting to ruin their friendship, davestation Xander. After being rejected by Buffy, Xander asks Willow, but she says no because she knows he still wants Buffy. Later, when Xander goes to Angel to save Buffy, Angel realizes that Xander is inlove with her. |
| Character Study: Buffy When Buffy first overhears the prophecy of her death, she laughs, then is in denial saying she won't fight the Master that she quits. The sadness in her face and when she says "I'm 16 years old, I don't want to die" makes you realize just how young she really is. |
| Episode Highlight: Angel and Xander going underground to find Buffy. Xander: You were looking at my neck, I saw it. Angel: No, I wasn't. Xander: I told you to eat before we left. |
