| Chapter 9 |
| Jason walked into Jake's Bar where he was staying. He was thinking about the kiss he had shared with Elizabeth earlier. Suddenly, he saw Lucky standing there. Lucky walked over to Jason. "Why are you here?" Jason asked him. "I think you know why." Lucky told him. "I want you to stay away from Elizabeth." He said. Jason just looked at him. "Elizabeth CAN see me if she wants to and I can see her if and when I want to. She's not your property." "Elizabeth wants nothing more then to be friends with you, and I know how you feel about her, but it won't work, Jason." Lucky said looking him straight in the eye. Jason looked at Lucky. "You say that Elizabeth doesn't have feelings for me. "He said. "We're see about that." Then he turned and walked up the stairs to his room. * * * Lucky walked onto the docks. He stopped when he heard someone coming. He looked up and saw Britney walk onto the docks. She saw him and turned the other way. "Where are you going?" Lucky called after her. Britney stopped. Lucky could tell she was upset. "Whatever you're upset about does that mean that you have to run away from me?" He asked. Britney sighed. "I wasn't running away." She said looking down. Lucky walked over to her. "What's got you so upset?" He asked. Britney continued to look at the ground. "What makes you think I'm upset?" She asked. "Because." Lucky said softly. "I've never seen you when you weren't." Britney looked up at him, they looked at each other for a second. Britney suddenly turned away. Lucky watched as she started to walk away. "Wait." He said to her. "You don't need to walk away now." Britney stopped, but didn't look at him. "Yes, I do." She said looking out at the water. "Why? Lucky asked. "Because." britney sighed and looked at him. "Haven't you realized that I'm in love with you?" Lucky stopped. Britney turned to face him. "Since I first met you, and I can't do this anymore, because I can't sit around and pretend that I don't have feelings for you, because I do." Lucky looked at her. He did know that she had feelings for him, but he didn't expect this. "How can you say you love me when you just met me?" He asked. "I felt like I knew you from the first time I met you." Britney said to him. "And there was a connection between us, and I know you felt it too." She said looking him in the eye. Lucky remembered back when he first met her, he remembered feeling as though he had known her, he did feel a connection to her and that's why it was also easy for him to talk to her. But it wasn't enough, he still loved Elizabeth. Britney saw the look on Lucky's face and knew that he may have felt something, but he wouldn't leave Elizabeth. "Do you have feelings for me?" Britney asked him. Lucky looked at her. "I love Elizabeth." He said to her softly. "I do like talking to you, but my feelings are for Elizabeth. I'm sorry, bacause I know that's not what you wanted to heear, but the most I can give you is the truth." He said. Britney sighed. "I appreciate that someone tells me the truth. It's nice to know what kind of person you are, but that doesn't make it any easier for me." She said. "My feelings aren't going to change just because your's aren't the same." Lucky looked at her as she turned to leave. "Wherer are you going?" Lucky asked. "You don't think I can go off alone when I'm upset." Britney said sighing. "Well, it doesn't matter, because that's where I need to be, alone." She said and walked off. Lucky stood there on the docks and thought of the words that Britney had said to him, that she was in love with him. He didn't know what to make of that. He loved Elizabeth so much, but something keeps making him not be able to walk away from Britney. * * * Britney was out alone driving. She had been drinking. She wanted to drown her troubles in alcohol, but it didn't seem to be working. Although she usually turned to drinking when she was upset, it would make her feel better for at least a couple of hours, but that night she still felt upset. Britney thought about all the things that were going on in her life and thought it couldn't get any worse. Suddenly, she heard sirens in back of her. It was the cops. Britney glanced at her speedometer and realized she was going over 80 mph. She wasn;t sure what the speed limit was, but she knew she had been going way over it. Britney pulled over to the side of the road. The cop came up to her window and asked to see her license. "Miss Pearson, Do you know why I pulled you over?" He asked. "No, I mean I guess I may have been going like ten over the limit, but come on." Britney said, trying to get out of it. The cop looked at her. "Try 35 over." He replied. "Miss Peason, have you been drinking?" "Just like a little." Britney lied. But she was forced to take a test for alcohol and it came up posative. "Britney Pearson." The officer said. "You are under arrest." |
